Smart Cities – this concept describes the vision of an intelligent, networked city that uses new technologies to develop new pathways to modernize and redesign the city and its processes, making them evermore efficient and transparent.
The route connecting Manises and Riba Roja in the province of Valencia is an important stretch of one of the access roads to the major Spanish city of Valencia. The Bertolín Group, the construction company tasked with the project, deployed the MOBA-matic levelling system with Big Sonic-Ski fitted into a Volvo and an ABG paver for the job. But there is something special about this deployment: for the first time, Bertolín decided to use the system with four sensors.
The MOBA Big Sonic-Ski's silver mounting brackets and unmistakeable ultrasound sensors can now be seen on construction sites everywhere on pavers or milling machines from the widest range of manufacturers and in all sorts of sizes. Where the milling job is done with precision, less unevenness will need to be levelled out when it comes to paving a road with new asphalt. And so it has proved to be in Greece during the renovation of the road connecting Schimatari and Chalcis, about 50 kilometres outside Athens.
MOBA-matic levelling system with new temperature sensor. Quality and long service life are the definitive goals for machine control systems manufacturers. This applies not just to the development of new products, but also to their deployment on site, for example for the construction of asphalt roads.
Levelling asphalt under the most demanding conditions: resurfacing a Siberian motorway. The robust MOBA equipment is perfectly suited to this due to their special sealing method and rugged housings that don’t just protect them from heat and the cold, but also from dust and damage due to vibrations and allow them to work on a high-precision and highly reliable basis. This is the reason why the Sibna construction company decided to use one of our Big Sonic-Ski systems with four sensors for levelling in their project for resurfacing and modernising a trunk road from Taishet to Irkutsk.
The modular structure of MOBA's Xsite range of excavation sys-tems offers the highest possible level of flexibility, providing you with a suitable solution for every project, whether it be small or large. The 2D system is an entry-level system that provides all the 2D functionalities for smaller projects. With the 2D/3D system, comprehensive 2D functionalities are available. This unit includes the largest touchscreen display available on the market for a 2D excavator control system. Another special feature is the option of upgrading to 3D at any time.
With over seven million waste and recycling bins equipped with RFID technology, hundreds of waste related projects im-plemented in Europe and throughout the world, MOBA has held a strong market presence in this industry for many years. As a next logical step, MOBA is expanding its efforts further into other regions and now is establishing a new Business Unit Waste Division in the USA.
In the administrative district of Darmstadt-Dieburg, for example, waste container locks fitted with an RFID access control system developed by MOBA were introduced about 15 years ago. Integrating an access control system by fitting such a refuse container lock was possible on almost all refuse containers in the district. Residents dispose of their refuse by opening the refuse container lock using a chip card the size of a standard debit card or with an RFID chip. They simply throw their rubbish bag in and close the lid, and their rubbish will fall down into the refuse container.
MOBA Mobile Automation AG is reinforcing its commitment in the sale of control systems for earthmoving machinery with the formation of the new earthmoving division, concentrating on Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Andreas Velten is the head of the new division, with many years of expertise in complex system solutions, particularly in the construction machinery controller sector.
With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, MOBA Mobile Automation AG officially began construction of a new factory hall at the company headquarters in the city of Limburg in Germany. The electronics company is investing approximately four million euros in the construction of the 1,800 square metre hall and modernisation of the main building. The new building will be used in the future to equip waste disposal vehicles with MOBA electronics and to accommodate mechanical production.
Cairo, the political, economic and cultural centre and capital city of Egypt with around 20 million people living in its catchment area, is the largest and most important city of the North African country. This in turn results in ever more frequent and longer traffic jams due to overloading of the main roads, especially at peak times. This also goes for the 100 kilometre long orbital motorway, Cairo's most important traffic artery, that was built in the 1980s. Thanks to the MOBA-matic levelling system with the Big Sonic-Ski that the construction company General Nile Company for Road Construction (GNCRC), one of the biggest road construction companies in Egypt, used on both sides of the Terex CR462 paver, it was possible to lay the asphalt quickly and precisely.
Machine control systems have long proven their benefits in field practice. Thanks to their time and cost savings, as well as precise results, control technology has long been part of a standard kit on larger building sites.

Today, leveling technology in asphalt pavers is an absolute must for many projects – for the construction or renovation of motorways, main or country roads, for example. Which is why some 90 percent of all asphalt pavers in Germany are equipped with leveling technology.
MOBA Mobile Automation AG presents a new graphic display at SPS/IPC/Drives in Hall 7A, Booth 111 that is optimised for automating a wide range of mobile machines.
Many gravel plants are increasingly using weighing systems – as is Hartmann on their two Volvo wheel loaders. These wheel loader trucks are equipped with MOBA’s new load control system HLC.
For the asphalt paving of this test track the contracted construction company Kostas Papadopoulos Ltd and the sub-contractor Asphalt Dynamic SA relied on MOBA levelling technology.
The PAVE-IR system monitors the temperature during asphalt paving and documents it for the entire project. As a result, contractors can optimize their processes and verify the quality of the paving process, as the asphalt temperature is decisive for quality.
In municipal waste disposal, identification systems enable user-based fee levying. RFID technology is being employed in the Bamberg district too. There, the Eichhorn company relies on MOBA for carrying out general waste disposal.
